Unless you are only seeking total relaxation from a Swedish Massage, you will not schedule an appointment for a specific "type" of massage. I have found clients benefit most from a combination of therapy techniques incorporated into one session. Therefore, when you arrive for your appointment, we will discuss any issues, problems or concerns you may be having, then come up with a treatment plan that is specific to your needs at that particular time. If you prefer only one specific type of massage, please specify that when scheduling your appointment. Below you will find a listing of different techniques/therapies that may be incorporated into your session. If something is of specific interest, be sure to let me know.
CranioSacral Therapy is a gentle yet powerful technique that is effective in releasing neck pain, back pain, and mental stress (among other things). It does this by optimizing the movement of cerebrospinal fluid through the spine and around the skull. Developed by physician William Sutherland, this gentle therapy provides a very soothing and relaxing healing experience.
Trigger Point Therapy is a style of bodywork that focuses on stimulating and releasing "trigger points" in your body. Trigger points are tender areas of tension similar to acupressure points, except they occur in the belly of the muscle rather than along the energy pathways of the body. These "knots" are built up throughout a person's life due to physical, mental, and/or emotional stress. During a session, focused pressure is applied through a variety of techniques in order to release your trigger points. This process can be quite painful at times, yet the effects are lasting and profoundly transformative.
Deep Tissue Massage is a form of bodywork that aims to relieve tension in the deeper layers of tissue in the body. Deep Tissue Massage is a highly effective method for releasing chronic stress areas due to misalignment, repetitive motions, and past lingering injuries. Due to the nature of the deep tissue work, open communication during the session is crucial to make sure you don't get too uncomfortable. Keep in mind that soreness is pretty common after the treatment, and that plenty of water should be ingested to aid with the flushing and removal of toxins that will have been released from the deep tissue during the session.
Muscle Energy Technique (MET) is a form af a manual therapy which uses a muscle’s own energy in the form of gentle isometric contractions to relax the muscles via reciprocal inhibition and lengthen the muscle. As compared to static stretching which is a passive technique in which therapist does all the work, MET is an active technique in which patient is also an active participant.
Temporomandibular Joint Disorder is often caused when the jaw muscles are overly tight or imbalanced, massage therapy works well to help restore normal muscle tone and balance between the TMJ muscles. Although not a "relaxing" experience, some people obtain great relief from both interior and exterior jaw work. This therapy only requires a few minutes of work and is incorporated with scalp and neck work. NOTE: Please obtain a prescription from your doctor or dentist allowing this type of therapy work.
Curious about massage, but not ready for a full body massage? Want relaxation without the time commitment of a full Swedish Massage? Work with your hands all day and just want to pamper them a bit? Well this hand and foot massage may be just the thing you are looking for! You will be treated to an essential oil infused foot soak while you receive a relaxing and rejuvenating hand massage. Then you'll enjoy a paraffin hand treatment while you kick back and enjoy a foot massage. This treatment makes a great gift idea for almost anyone on your list!
Children reap the same benefits of massage as adults, just in smaller doses. Although some children may enjoy a relaxing Swedish Massage, most often just need work on a specific area due to injury, overuse, or day-to-day strain from sports or play. To keep kids in top condition for sports, I offer discounted rates to all school aged children. Reach out to discuss what we can do to help get your team player back on the field or out on the playground.
Gift certificates are available year round and are a great way to "treat" someone special to some personalized pampering. Each gift certificate can be made out in any amount and includes a sample bar of milk soap from The Mullen Dairy & Creamery.
